Staging of electric scooters

A group of students from the University of Aalborg, have examined the staging of electric scooters in their bachelor project. Copenhagen Solutions Lab have contributed with useful information and shares the most important points from the project.

The group has examined the implementation process of electric scooters in four municipalities: Aalborg, Aarhus, Copenhagen, and Odense. The municipalities have not been able to use the existing acts governing public roads to manage and regulate the electric scooters, why the implementation of the scooters has been different in the four municipalities.

Besides examining the staging from the municipalities and the state, the bachelor group also examined the citizens’ staging of the electric scooters through a survey that received 600 respondents.

The project concludes that there is an observed difference between users and non-users of electric scooters if they consider scooters as a negative or positive factor in the mobility system. Furthermore, a difference in the use of electric scooters is observed depending on the citizens’ use of a private or rented scooter. Users of private scooters use them more often and in combination with other forms of mobility, while the user of a rented scooter only uses the scooter a few times and primarily for recreational use.
