Circular Economy

Circular Economy
Copenhagen aims to become a circular city — where waste becomes a resource, and innovation drives change. We work with companies that want to develop and test new technologies to promote reuse, recycling and smarter resource management.
Resources must stay in the loop
We face a shared challenge: we are using more resources than the planet can regenerate. That’s why we need to rethink how we handle waste and materials.
In Copenhagen, we are working to turn waste into valuable resources — and we need your ideas and technology to make it happen.
We invite companies to help develop digital, data-driven and user-friendly solutions that accelerate the shift to a circular economy.
How we support the circular economy
Copenhagen Solutions Lab can help to implement the Resource and Waste Strategy 2030 through:
- Pilot projects and technology trials
- Data-driven waste management using sensors and AI
- Public–private innovation partnerships and networks
- Citizen engagement and digital nudging tools
- Digital solutions for tracking and reusing construction materials
Examples
- Sensors to measure fill levels in waste bins
- Digital platforms for sorting guidance and citizen feedback
- RFID or blockchain solutions for tracking construction waste
- Matchmaking platforms for reusable materials
Knowledge about circular economy
Why innovation is key to Copenhagen’s circular economy
Copenhagen has set ambitious goals: less waste, more reuse. The Resource and Waste Strategy 2030 outlines clear targets — including 10,000 tonnes of reuse from recycling centres and 60,000 tonnes of construction waste to be recycled.
We can only reach these goals through innovation and collaboration. That’s why we’re opening the city as a testbed for technologies that can deliver real impact.
